The 1769-ACNR is a communication module which belongs to the Allen-Bradley Flex I/O product family. This hardware is used for implementing distributed I/O application over a redundant ControlNet communication highway.
This module supports up to Eight (8) 1794 modules. It may be a mix of Discrete Input and Output, Analog Input and Output and specialty modules. This module is DIN rail mountable and requires installation in an enclosure during operation.
It has Two (2) ControlNet ports for redundant communication, Port A is used for the primary ControlNet interface while Port B is connected to the redundant ControlNet line. It supports 5Mbps communication rate and protocol version 1.25.
This module is powered by an external 24VDC source with rated range of 19.2V
31.2V DC including 5% AC ripple. Nominal supply is 24VDC. It has power dissipation of 4.6 W at 19.2 VDC and thermal dissipation of 15.7 BTU/hr @ 19.2V DC.
This module is compatible with ControlNet cable Allen-Bradley RG-6/U Quad shield coax with part number part number 1786-RG6 for standard-PVC CM-CL2 or 1786-RG6F/A for high-flex applications. 3rd party equivalent ControlNet cables may be used.
This module has built-in LED indicators for local diagnostics of the module. Specifically, the LEDs are used to indicated Communication Port A and Port B. Both LEDs indicate Red and Green for Bad and Good status respectively. A 3rd LED is installed used to indicate the I/O status health.
This module may be used with PLC5, SLC500, CompactLogix and ControlLogix platforms as distributed I/O solutions. The controller platforms must support ControlNet protocol as well.

Two (2) ControlNet ports are installed to this device to enable support for redundant communication. When implementing Redundant ControlNet communication, there must be Two (2) main ControlNet trunk to which the ControlNet ports of this device will connect to. The port A of this device must be terminated to a ControlNet tap then the ControlNet tap shall engage to the primary trunk to establish connection to the primary data highway. Same goes to the secondary ControlNet port aside from it should be connected to the secondary ControlNet trunk.
Redundancy works by automatically switching data highway, regardless of the protocol. One highway will be the active and the other is stand-by. Once communication break is experienced, the adapter along with the processor, switches to the highway standby highway, shifting it to active status and the other one as standby.
Both ControlNet ports are capable of 5Mbps transmission rate and using ControlNet protocol version 1.25. Flex I/O has other ControlNet modules but they are intended for version 1.5. It is important to know that ControlNet 1.25 is not compatible with 1.5 which means, the modules with different protocols cannot be mixed up.
