Product Overview
The 1794-ASB is a Remote I/O (RIO) adapter module from the compact and modular Flex IO family. This module is primarily used to connect a Flex IO rack to a RIO network. This module supports DIN rail or Panel / Wall mounting. It is used to implement distributed I/O applications as it supports Eight (8) Flex IO modules of any combination in its local rack.
This module supports several transmission speeds. It has selectable communication rate of 57.6 Kbps 115.2 Kbps and 230.4 Kbps. If used with a PLC-5/15 and PLC-5/25, only 57.6 Kbps is supported.
Remote I/O modules utilize Block Transfer Read (BTR) and Block Transfer Write (BTW) instructions. These instructions are available to any Logix controller. Block Transfer Read (BTR) is an instruction that originates from the controller used to get data from the communication adapters local modules and make it available to the controllers processor. Block Transfer Write (BTW) instruction is also triggered from the controller used to write new values and overwrite the existing data of the modules attached to the 1794-ASB. Data transfer to and from the RIO adapter modules occurs at every Flexbus scan. Flexbus scan is operates in a very high frequency to ensure that the provided data is updated.
A Reset pushbutton is included with the adapter to re0initiate the module data exchange activity. It is well known that Remote IO communication protocol is sensitive noise as this affects Block Transfer Read and Write quality. Alternatively, a physical reset button may be added as a discrete input or a Human Machine Interface (HMI) button may be connected to a memory bit of the PLC to re-initialize the transfer instructions. These added physical and software buttons must not belong to any existing BTR and BTW instructions.
