The 1794-OB8 is a Flex IO module that features Eight (8) channel 24VDC output module. This output module is used to interface Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) commands, to energize electrical devices or Final Control Elements (FCE) such as indicators, relays, solenoid, audible alarms and other components. This module can be operated with separate voltage sources. In AC applications, this module may be used provided that an interposing circuit is provided in between.
To implement interposing functionality, relays are used with coil rating compatible to the output modules voltage category, 24VDC. In the normally open contact of the relay, an AC voltage is terminated. In the event that the PLC logic triggers the output module, the electrical component is not energized instead the relay module is activated initiating contact change. The AC voltage waiting in the Normally Open (N.O.) contacts that has closed will energize the AC device. This will seem that the output module triggers the electrical however, a middle device, in this case a relay is actually responsible for the switching action. This is a known method which also provides isolation and protection to each module.
the 1794-OB8 is attached to a terminal base. Terminal bases of Flex I/O systems provide housing to the module. The module is externally supplied with an output voltage, it does not generate a voltage itself. It is also important to consider grouping of modules which may be based on criticality or according to type of modules. Planning the system this way provides a safer operation and easier maintenance in the future. VIIIVThe 1794-OB8 is a Flex IO Eight (8) channel 24VDC sourcing output module. This module is compatible for use with any 1794 Flex IO adapters to implement distributed I/O application.
