The 1794-OV16 is a Sixteen (16) channel 24VDC Discrete sinking input module. This module supports DIN rail mounting and compatible for use with any Flex IO communication adapters to serve as part of distributed IO solution. It may also be used with a FlexLogix Controller with part number 1794-L33 and 1794-L34 as well with 1794-FLA or FlexLogix Extended Local I/O module.

Sinking outputs refers to the type of wire connection to the load. In Sinking configuration, the ground or negative line serve as the runner wires while the positive lines provide the common connection to the load. Internal fusing is not installed with the module which means external protection is recommended for installation.

Depending on the communication adapter used, this module may be located far from the controller. The shortest distance would be with the use of Ethernet communication adapter. Ethernet only supports 100 meters. To extend the range, installation and termination to another switch extends the distance to another 100 meters however, further adding Ethernet switches may cause delays, traffic and collision. Ethernet may be used with a Fiber Optic converter or Wireless communication to extend the range to a minimum of 1 kilometer.

Remote I/O, Data Highway Plus (DH+) and ControlNet easily allows the 1794-OV16 to be installed 1 kilometer away from the processors. However, these are proprietary communication protocols which may mean that connection devices, cables are specifically designed. In addition, this protocol is designed for factory floor application and connection. If connection to supervisory level or to enterprise level in planned, these communication protocol may offer some challenges when it comes to integrating devices.
